For a moment the world<br \/>\nonly my backyard, such a gold as I have seen<br \/>\nbehind the heads of saints in medieval paintings,<br \/>\nillumination setting off shrub, flower, weed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">This is summer I woke to as a child<br \/>\nafter the long fall into sleep, black rain<br \/>\nwhich never ceased until my eyes could open,<br \/>\nfirst light an expectation without words.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">You remember this. You had the same morning.<br \/>\nI\u2019m four years old for both of us right now.<br \/>\nThe window runs with gold. De momento el mundo<br \/>\ns\u00f3lo es el jard\u00edn, lleno de un oro que s\u00f3lo he visto<br \/>\nen las cabezas de los santos de las pinturas medievales,<br \/>\ny cada arbusto, cada flor y mala hierba se destacan,<br \/>\nest\u00e1n iluminados.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Todo es como el verano al que despertaba de ni\u00f1o<br \/>\ndespu\u00e9s de un largo sue\u00f1o, con esa terca lluvia negra<br \/>\nque no cesaba hasta que se me abr\u00edan los ojos<br \/>\ny la primera luz era una expectativa sin palabras.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">T\u00fa te acuerdas. De origen mexicano, se licenci\u00f3 en Filosof\u00eda en la Universidad Iberoamericana (D.F.) y m\u00e1s tarde obtuvo la maestr\u00eda y el doctorado en Literatura Latinoamericana y Espa\u00f1ola en la Temple University (Filadelfia). Entre 1962 y 1969 public\u00f3 poes\u00eda en diversas revistas culturales de su pa\u00eds. Fue directora del Programa para La Frontera M\u00e9xico-Estados Unidos, del American Friends Service Committee. Su investigaci\u00f3n acad\u00e9mica se enfoca en la poes\u00eda mexicana y centroamericana (destacables son sus ensayos en torno a la poes\u00eda de Octavio Paz, por citar uno de sus autores preferidos), as\u00ed como en la relaci\u00f3n entre literatura y cambio social en Am\u00e9rica Latina. Desde 1979 ha participado en el movimiento para defender los derechos de los trabajadores migrantes, y prepara una antolog\u00eda po\u00e9tica que llevar\u00e1 por t\u00edtulo En las orillas.
