Eliot (1888-1965).<\/em><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>A Song for Simeon<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Lord, the Roman hyacinths are blooming in bowls and<br \/>\nThe winter sun creeps by the snow hills;<br \/>\nThe stubborn season has made stand.<br \/>\nMy life is light, waiting for the death wind,<br \/>\nLike a feather on the back of my hand.<br \/>\nDust in sunlight and memory in corners<br \/>\nWait for the wind that chills towards the dead land.<br \/>\nGrant us thy peace.<br \/>\nI have walked many years in this city,<br \/>\nKept faith and fast, provided for the poor,<br \/>\nHave taken and given honour and ease.<br \/>\nThere went never any rejected from my door.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Who shall remember my house,<br \/>\nwhere shall live my children\u2019s children<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>When the time of sorrow is come ?<br \/>\nThey will take to the goat\u2019s path, and the fox\u2019s home,<br \/>\nFleeing from the foreign faces and the foreign swords.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Before the time of cords and scourges and lamentation<br \/>\nGrant us thy peace.<br \/>\nBefore the stations of the mountain of desolation,<br \/>\nBefore the certain hour of maternal sorrow,<br \/>\nNow at this birth season of decease,<br \/>\nLet the Infant, the still unspeaking and unspoken Word,<br \/>\nGrant Israel\u2019s consolation<br \/>\nTo one who has eighty years and no to-morrow.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>According to thy florecen en los vasos<br \/>\ny el sol de invierno trepa las nevadas colinas;<br \/>\nla tenaz estaci\u00f3n se hace sentir.<br \/>\nMi vida es leve, y espera por el viento de la muerte<br \/>\ncomo una pluma que en el dorso de la mano se posa.<br \/>\nEl polvo a pleno d\u00eda y el recuerdo en oscuros rincones<br \/>\nesperan por el viento que sopla helado hacia la tierra yerta.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Conc\u00e9denos tu paz.<br \/>\nHe deambulado por esta ciudad durante muchos a\u00f1os,<br \/>\nhe guardado la fe y observado el ayuno, he mantenido al pobre,<br \/>\nhe dado y recibido el honor y el alivio.<br \/>\nA nadie nunca arroj\u00e9 de mi puerta.<br \/>\n\u00bfQui\u00e9nes recordar\u00e1n mi casa, donde habr\u00e1n de vivir los hijos de mis hijos,<br \/>\ncuando sobrevenga el tiempo de la pena?<br \/>\nTomar\u00e1n ellos la senda de las cabras y habitar\u00e1n en el cubil del zorro<br \/>\npara escapar de rostros y espadas extranjeros.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Antes del tiempo de las cuerdas y las flagelaciones y el lamento<br \/>\nconc\u00e9denos tu paz.<br \/>\nAntes de las estaciones de la monta\u00f1a de la desolaci\u00f3n,<br \/>\nantes de la hora cierta de la aflicci\u00f3n materna,<br \/>\nahora en este tiempo naciente de difuntos,<br \/>\npermite que el Infante, la Palabra a\u00fan inexpresiva y muda<br \/>\nle conceda el consuelo de Israel<br \/>\na quien ya tiene ochenta a\u00f1os y ning\u00fan porvenir.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Conforme a tu palabra,<br \/>\nte alabar\u00e1n y sufrir\u00e1n en todas las generaciones<br \/>\ncon gloria y con escarnio,<br \/>\nLuz sobre luz, ascendiendo la escala de los santos.<br \/>\nNo para m\u00ed el martirio, el \u00e9xtasis de la meditaci\u00f3n y la plegaria,<br \/>\nno para m\u00ed la contemplaci\u00f3n definitiva.<br \/>\nConc\u00e9deme tu paz.<br \/>\n(Y una espada traspasar\u00e1 tu coraz\u00f3n,<br \/>\ntambi\u00e9n el Tuyo).<br \/>\nEstoy cansado de mi propia vida y de las vidas de los que han de venir despu\u00e9s de m\u00ed.<br \/>\nAgonizo en mi propia muerte y en las muertes de los que han de sucederme.<br Ha ejercido el periodismo de opini\u00f3n durante m\u00e1s de treinta a\u00f1os y ha traducido numerosos libros del ingl\u00e9s al espa\u00f1ol. Reside en Estados Unidos desde 1980. Esta traducci\u00f3n suya se encuentra en la parte final del volumen \u2018Estancia de los sentidos\u2019 (Obra po\u00e9tica reunida), publicado el a\u00f1o 2018 en Madrid y bajo el sello de la editorial Biblioteca Nueva.
